Bloomsburg University Graduate Ashley L. Gregory

B.S.Ed in Early Childhood and Elementary Education

M. Ed in Reading/ Reading Specialist

Welcome to my professional online Eportfolio! My name is Ashley Gregory. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S.Ed. degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education on May 8, 2010, from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA. Additionally, I graduated with a concentration in the field of Language Arts. Post-graduation, I became employed full-time beginning May, 2012, as a Title I Reading Specialist for Minersville Area School District (MASD), Minersville, PA. As a Reading Specialist (RS), I work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods. I lead, guide, and coordinate others while operating under a defined budget. A big part of my job as a RS involves collecting, analyzing, and preparing data for the interpretation of the district, state, and federal agencies. I determine interventions for students who are diagnosed as "at risk" readers, as well as monitor student progress for the purpose of providing feedback to the students, teachers, and parents. Through my substitute teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to teach all grades Pre-K through 8th, as well as several Special Education and ESL classes. I have also observed DIBELS/ DIBELS Next training, DRA training, Guided Reading training, Basic Reading Inventory (BRI) training, Running Records training, Step-By-Step training, and Scholastic Read-180 training. Scholastic Read-180 training has enabled me to work with my students following the Balanced Literacy approach, where students learn to both read and write effectively through incorporating several reading strategies. To name a few Reading practices, I have been exposed to: Guided Reading, Shared Reading, Independent Reading, Word Work, Interactive Writing, and Writer's Workshop. From my extensive graduate research within the area of Literacy, I know just how important incorporating The 5 Pillar's (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension) truly is.

While at Bloomsburg University, I obtained professional development hours in organizations such as: Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, and The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). I was elected to serve as Bloomsburg University's Gamma Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi treasurer during both my junior and senior academic years. Through this organization, we provided both community service and financial assistance to many organizations such as: The American Red Cross, The Ronald McDonald House, Bloomsburg University clothing drives, Columbia Mall Annual Children's Fair, and Bloomsburg's annual "Tree Fest"- an charity event that benefits thousands of needy families across the state during the holiday season. Additionally while at Bloomsburg University, I volunteered my time with Bloomsburg University's Women's Intramural Basketball and Bloomsburg University's Ski and Snowboard club.

During my junior year (2009) I was fortunate enough to be able to get the unique opportunity to participate in an urban seminar experience sponsored by Bloomsburg University through the Philadelphia School System. I spent two weeks in a 3rd grade classroom where I worked on futhering my classroom management skills and learned more about teaching in an urban school system. At night I participated in service events and informational learning forums that benefited prospective teachers. Additionally, I got the chance to explore the school district as well as learn more about the city through hands on multicultural experiences sponsored by the seminar.

My career goal is to obtain an elementary teaching position where I can utilize my diverse educational background, field experiences, and high degree of enthusiasm to make a lasting impression in the lives of my students. I value continuing my education for the purpose of staying current with the latest and best practices, new theories, and techonology. This site will allow you to get to know more about my educational background by exploring my teaching experience to-date, student teaching experiences, classroom discipline plan, undergraduate/graduate courses, and teaching philosophy.
